Prayer for Wounded Knee

Stay tuned for news and information on a prayer circle assembly coming to Wounded Knee in South Dakota.

August 6, 2008
On our way to Wounded Knee.

Howdy family,

Raven and I are on our way to the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation at
Wounded Knee for a private prayer ceremony dedicated to those who
lost their lives during the seige in 1890. The purpose is also to
pray for relations and communications to open up with all tribes and
all people and for the Dakota/Lakota/Nakota peoples to find healing
and reconciliation in their hearts and spirits. It is our way of
showing our deepest sympathy and empathy for this peoples loss so
long ago and to offer our hearts in the healing process among nations.

During this visit, we will visit with some of the families there with whom we have made contact in previous years to discuss the forming of a yearly prayer assembly at Wounded Knee with all tribes and nations until a healing happens. Folks at the reservation expressed their desire to us for 30,000 to come to Wounded Knee and for a public apology from government officials and peoples about the massacre. Their feeling is that if this can happen openly and publicly, the Lakotas can offer true forgiveness and move onward to heal and grow as a people again in the web of all nations. This is essential for the Lakotas and our nation, Wounded Knee being the heart of this great land on which we all enjoy its abundance.

This is not a rainbow gathering. This is a prayer assembly and the
forming of what we hope will be continued councils with the tribes at Pine Ridge. It is our hope that the door will open to many tribes and nations and that together we will assemble more often and find ways to co-exist in harmony with one another as a nation. It is the desire to see love grow, the people prosper, the tribe heal, the nation heal, and for peace to come on earth.

Right now we are in Wyoming traveling to Pine Ridge. This is an
informal assembly beginning with those who feel compelled to come and pray at the Wounded Knee cemetery. Please be respectful of the land and the people and be self sufficient. We will be praying there and meeting with tribal people for counsel as the spirit directs. This is only the beginning of this vision and it does not matter if only a few souls come in the body for spirits by the thousands will be with us.

Please send your prayers to this place for the people and for us that we will be guided by the spirit to walk the correct path in this effort. Email or post here if you would like to share your prayers and visions for this assembly and this counsel. Follow up will be posted after we leave the reservation. We will post any further prayer assemblies and/or counsels that come from this assembly.

We are traveling in a van and will be parking for a period of time
daily at the parking area across from the cemetery, unless we make
arrangements to move to a more private area with our friend who lives just across from the cemetery.

May the Great Spirit bless this effort.
Mitakuye Oyasin.
